Luka was 13 years old and was up a tree when he had a fit and fell.  

Initially he was ok but his neck was in a strange position. The local hospital did little to help and sent him home without doing any x-rays. His father decided 2 months later to straighten his neck and he was instantly paralysed. His neck was broken.

When Ruth and FM staff first found him, he was lying on an earth floor, paralyzed from the neck downwards, with pneumonia and a persistant headache.

Luka was provided with medication to treat pneumonia, malaria, epilepsy and pain and a collar to stabilise his neck. He was given a matress and his parents were given some support and advice about how to clean him safely.

Within three months he was walking again!! [See right]
